Aderyn Pierpont aka Aderyn the Quiet aka Featherfoot

Background

Aderyn was born in Normandie in 1197 to Lord Harold Pierpont and his Lady Penelope. She was married at sixteen to a promising young Spaniard merchant David Ibarra, a scant 10 years older than she. After the birth of their first child, a daughter, he became distant and cold. Even the subsequent birth of a son did not change him. He became a wastrel, spending extravagant amounts of money on mistresses and whores. He contracted syphilis and died, leaving Aderyn scant means to pay his debtors. She returned to her father's house but her daughter suffered ill health on the journey home and died soon after arriving.

After a years mourning for her husband and daughter she married a German merchant Owain Matheson. They spent 12 difficult years in marriage and she bore him two daughters and a son. Owain came ill with influenza and, due to previous ill health, succumbed to it rather quickly.

Again Aderyn returned to her father's house, only slightly better off than before. Due to difficulties suffered in her last pregnancy, she was told she was unable to bear anymore children and her father was unsure he could arrange any further marriages.

About this time Lord Harold had house guests, a previous war compatriot and his son. Lord Harold saw how his good friend's son looked at his daughter and knew him to be an honorable man. He suggested to his friend that it might be of benefit to his son (a merchant) to be wedded to his daughter, previously a merchant's wife. His friend, who had also observed his son's attraction, readily agreed.

Aderyn was not at all certain she wanted to be married again, much less to another merchant, but she was a dutiful daughter and married the son of her father's friend, and found contentment in her new marriage.
