Brief Biography

Cathyn began life in the SCA after reading about the organization in Soldier of Fortune magazine in 1979. His first event, attended as a mundane, was in Carlsbad, New Mexico, in September 1980, while the Outlands was a Principality of Atenveldt. Served the Shire of Caer Mithin Halle as Arts and Sciences officer for two years. Moved to the Barony of al-Barran (Albuquerque, NM) in 1984 and lived there until 1991, serving as Chronicler and Herald at different times. Moved to the Barony of Lonely Tower (Omaha, NE) in Calontir, and served as Herald and 3rd Baron. In 1996 moved to the Barony of Forgotten Sea (Kansas City, MO/KS), and served as Herald. Won Calontir Crown November 2nd, 1996, was Crowned April 5th, 1997, and stepped down September 13th, 1997. Moved back to al-Barran in 1998, served as Earl Marshal of the Outlands. Was made the last Knight of the Twentieth Century on December 17th, 2000. Moved to the Shire of Qal at'Jafar (Indianapolis, IN) in the Midrealm in 2007. Served as Investigator for the Board of Directors. Met the most amazing and wonderful woman on Earth at Pensic 2008, and eventually moved to the West in 2009 after marrying her, settling down in the Principality of the Mists. He is a founding member of the Chateau Rose, a company formed in the Winter of 2010 to embody all the things that are enjoyable about the SCA.

Persona

How does one *not* have a persona?

Cathyn Fitzgerald is Irish, living in the late 16th Century. He has a fondness for clothing from other years and other lands.

For reasons of internal consistency, a slightly immodest persona story would run along the lines of Cathyn was born to the Earl of Kildare and the daughter of his neighbor, the Duke of Dublin. As their marriage was held in secret by the local parish priest due to her father's disapproval, Cathyn, now a man, has been petitioning Court and Crown to restore to him those lands and titles rightfully his. This story is an effort to describe in historically plausible terms the career path of a fighter in the SCA who has risen from "member of the nobility" (which we are all presumed to be, according to Corpora) to Knight and Royal Peer, and who continues to contest in Crown and Coronet Lists, and might receive further accolades.

As a quirk, it should be noted that Earl Cathyn Fitzgerald lives in Ireland, and is a subject of Queen Elizabeth. There is no way short of revolution that Cathyn could ever rise from the Nobility to the Royalty, and he is a Royalist, so it would never come to pass. Upon winning the 27th Crown Lists of the Kingdom of Calontir, the persona Cathyn Fitzgerald was banished from the realm, and Cuthbert Aldhelm, son of Eringlen Aldhelm, King of Calontir, was named Heir to the Falcon Throne.

Lineages

In the distant past, Cathyn was the squire of Sir Raymond the Quiet, and currently has three squires, Lord Magnus Gunwaldtsson, who is inactive and living in Ansteorra; Lord Alasdair MacArthur, and Lord Clovis Martel, who are both active in the Midrealm..

Cathyn strongly believes that a Knight's Lineage descends exclusively through the holder of the sword at the time of elevation, and therefore reckons his lineage as follows:
