Derelei ingen Ferat

Derelei ingen Ferat has been active in the SCA since A.S. XXXIV though she has gone by various names including Caelainn ingen Ferat and Cailfinn of St David's. She began in the Mists in the West Kingdom, traveled to the Kingdom of Drachenwald, then to Meridies, then back to Drachenwald, before finally returning home to the Mistlands. She is currently serving as Bard of the Mists.

Location

Derelei lives in the mountainous border between Southern Shores and Darkwood, the latter being her first Barony though she is now slightly to the other side of the border.

Activities

Derelei has a wide range of interests.

She is often found at events playing with string--tablet weaving, inkle weaving, twining, spinning with drop spindle, luceting and more. She sings with the West Kingdom Choir and at bardics and is currently Bard of the Mists. She also enjoys other A&S activities including Pictish/Viking wire knitting (trichinopoly); glass bead making; brewing meads, cyser and cordials. Sewing, on the other hand, Derelei has been heard to compare to the more complex theories of the natural philosophers: potentially rewarding, but painful to attempt to wrap her mind around. That doesn't seem to keep her from trying, however.

She fences and has dreams of putting together a set of Pictish fencing gear in true anachronistic fashion.

She also researches all sorts of things, most recently working on putting together a resource for Pictish women's names.

Persona

Derelei daughter of Ferat is a Pict born near the Dalriadan border. Because the Pictish term for "daughter of" is so unfamiliar (read: utterly unknown) she has been known to use the Latin, the Irish or a Pictish twist on the Norse (dattrr Ferat not Feratsdottr as one might expect).

No, she doesn't wear woad tatoos but she says there are tales about back when her ancestors used to. Her persona is loosely rooted around the 8th or 9th century. She is happy to discuss all things Pictish at great length.
