SCA Membership

From In The West-The West Kingdom Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Anyone can attend SCA events as long as they make an attempt to wear pre-17th-century clothing, observe basic courtesy, and follow whatever rules are stated for each event's site and the rules of that SCA branch, as appropriate.

However, individuals may choose to become dues-paying members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is the nonprofit organization the West Kingdom belongs to.

Paying an annual membership fee helps support the SCA infrastructure, including worldwide liability coverage for the chapters.

For individuals, paid membership gives you certain benefits, such as:

  • The ability to hold office
  • The ability to compete in Crown / Coronet tournaments
  • Sustaining and international members receive the kingdom's newsletter (in the West, the monthly newsletter is The Page)
  • Discounted entry fees at some events

Gate Fees and the Non-Member Surcharge

As of July 2010, the Non-Member Surcharge for events is $5.00. This means that events with a gate fee or ticket price can charge $5.00 more for those who are not paid SCA members.

For example, all Kingdom-level events will cost $15.00 for members and $20 non-members.

How to Become a Member

You can sign up for SCA membership and pay by credit card here.

To pay by check, print out this form (PDF) and mail it in.

Once you become a member, bring your card or at least the ID number with you to events. You will need to write the member number on the check-in form if you want to get the membership price at the gate.
