Persona

Sylvie CynCor2011.png

As is tradition in the West, Sylvie la chardonnière is relatively persona-less.

She is French.. and her surname, "chardonnière" implies that she is a "thistle seller". Sylvie is completly aware that her surname is NOT capitalized. It's supposed to be that way.

She used to be firmly temporaly located in the 14th century, then she flouncing about a lot closer 1535 and was looking decidedly Landknecht-y.. lately she's conceived of a passion for all things 6th century Kentish.. all things said, she's still French and isn't planning to -actually- change anything.

Interests

Sylvie is currently focused on costuming (primarily 6th Anglo-Saxon Kentish) and food as her main research topics. She has also dabbled in tablet weaving, fingerloop braiding, naalbinding and various other textile arts.

Honors and Awards

Sylvie on the West Kingdom Award List

  • I got my Award of Arms on June 21, AS XXXVIII (2003) at June Crown from Prince Dmitriy & Princess Jimena of the Mists. The event was held in Sacramento.. it was hotter than hell. I was wearing red Italians. I wasn't crying... I had sunscreen in my eyes.
  • At the first feast I cooked, Mists Bardic Feast on September 11 XXXIX (2004), Prince Titus & Princess Eona of the Mists awarded me the Corolla Aulica which is the Principality of the Mists service award.
  • At Boar Hunt Dec 10, AS XL (2005), my second feast as head cook, King Jade & Queen Eliana of the West made me a member of the Order of the Rose Leaf, the Kingdom level award given for expertise in the arts or sciences.
  • At March Crown Mar 22, AS XLII (2008) I received the Defender of the West from King Gemini & Queen Mari of the West for my work with my Lord Fearghus MacAirt as Estrella War Land Agents. I value this award greatly. It's one of they few I wear constantly.
  • At October Crown, October 30 XLV(2011) I was made a Baroness of the Court of the West by King Titus and Queen Arianwen.
  • At Cynaguan Investiture, Jan 29, XLV(2011) I received the Leaf of Merit from King Jade and Queen Catherine of the West. This is the kingdom level award for service.

Cool Things

  • At Debarchery October 12, 2002 (AS XXXVII), my first event as autocrat, I prepared and presented Coqz Heaumez (Helmeted Chicken, From Le Viandier de Taillevent a 14th century sublety). A cock astride a piglet. We outfitted him with a tabard in the colors of the Shire Cloondara, a knight's belt, a tinfoil helmet and wire spurs.
  • At March Crown 2003 (AS XXXVIII) I camped for the first time in the first pavillion I'd ever sewn together. The Taj Pavillion was a 19' round pavillion. For the first year I camped in it I bribed my campmates. I offered biscuit and gravy breakfast to anyone who helped me to setup. Since it was -way- too big for one person I sold this in 2006.
  • At March Crown 2004 I sewed together my first (second, third and fourth) Wedge Tent. I've posted my sewing instructions online.
  • In January 2007, Fearghus proposed to me at 12th Night Court. We're getting married "eventually".
  • In 2010 I sewed together a reproduction of the Viborg Shirt. I also taught a class about that shirt at A&S Tourney July 2010 (class notes available online).
  • In 2010 I started (seriously) working on German Kampfrau gowns.
  • In 2012 I started researching 6th century Kentish outfits.
