Verthandi

We are a Norse household residing in the Principality of the Mists comprised of active members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Led by Sir Roric Skogan and his lady, Viscountess Syele von der Rosen, we are blessed to include in our numbers many peers, noble ladies, and fighters of the West Kingdom.

We take our name from the mythology of the Norse. According to legend, the norn Verthandi was one of three ladies who stood as a mistresses of the lives of men, spinning the threads of fate at the foot of the great tree Yggdrasil. Verthandi's name is commonly translated as "in the making" or "that which is happening / becoming"; she also stands for the present (as the Norns symbolize the past, present, and future).

Our past has given us a great lineage and a wealth of knowledge as it has been passed down through the hall from Knight to Squire to Man-at-Arms for the past 5 generations.

The present is what we have each new day, and justly named as it lets us celebrate the gift of friendship.

Our future is what we still have to ‘become’ – from the newest fighter donning armor for the first day, looking towards the day when the King of the West might call him Knight, or the thrice over Peer who might be learning a new art, or teaching a new class for the first time.

We all are on a journey – we all are that which is to come. We gather here to celebrate our journey together, and welcome you to join us in our Hall here in the West.
