History
Some form of SCA group has existed in conjunction with the University of California, Davis since the 1970s. Earliest records of Windy Meads, and its sister group, The College of St. Merrick (UC Davis), indicate that it was formed prior to 1978, when as a Canton, the members made a presentation before the King & Queen at Beltane XII1, though a precise date of formation is currently unknown. The population in Windy Meads has historically drawn members from the University, but owing to the nature of college towns, the group has gone through periods of high activity and almost no activity as members graduate and move away. A small, dedicated contingent of permanent residents continue to foster the Shire through periods of low and high activity.
As of 2007, the College of St. Merrick was absorbed into the Shire, where previously it had maintained a separate status.
